One month Spending Freeze is complete!

My one month Spending Freeze is complete!

In the last 32 days (I extended 2 days because I bought 2 "wants"), I have paid off $1,712.99 on my car loan, $1,000 on my medical bill, and about 2 grand on my credit card bill when I started on June 21st, which was all racked up from my LA and NJ trips last month. So I've paid off about $4,712.99 of debts in the last 32 days. My credit card balance is at zero. I used $1,000 in savings to pay for my medical bill, so I paid for $3,712.99 of my debt with straight up labor from this month. And this was a SLOW work month.

In the past 32 days I've spent $62 on gas (what up, fellow hybrid owners!), $200 on groceries (bartering helps!), $34 on pet expenses, $70 on medical expenses that weren't my surgery bill, $14 on business miscellaneous, $0 on business supplies, $25 on utilities (Time Warner sent me a refund check last month, and now I have free Google Fiber- normally not this cheap!), and the rest was all fixed expenses (rent, cell phone bill, health & auto insurance, legal insurance, etc).

I still have $9,001.24 to go (damn interest on my car loan is what's making that number a not-nice/even one of 9 grand).

I plan to be a little lax this for the rest of this month, and then jump back in on August 1. I'm going to head to Savers (local KC thrift store) today to buy 2-3 "new" shirts, because I've worn out most of my current ones. I'm going to enjoy a few meals out, but try to keep them on the inexpensive side. My friend and I created a new networking group called Networking With Dogs KC- we are meeting for our first happy hour at Bar K Lab this Thursday, so I'll spend a little there. Also... I want my fucking donut.

Thoughts and feelings this morning:

  • I'm hella proud of myself.
  • I'm not tempted to buy much more in the Wants category than I thought I would be. I think seeing money move away from me faster between now and August 1st will be a tad traumatic- I value money way more than I did 32 days ago. This has been my experience with Spending Freezes in the past.
  • I'm more inclined to lovingly call bullshit when people complain about debt, if they're not taking action on it.
Anyway, I'm pet sitting all weekend.  Last night I made this soup (a fave) while listening to David Sedaris's new book on Audible, while the dogs wrestled and the cat stared/judged. I had a nice glass of vino, and I called and FaceTimed a few friends back east. Then I put my phone on Airplane Mode and took a bath before bed, with epsom salts and lavender essential oil, in the deep master bathtub. The bed I slept in was THE softest. Heavenly, I tell you.
