FINALLY! A travel post!
Salutations from Kadoka, South Dakota! Today I entered South Dakota for the first time in my life.
My parents (Dad and my stepmom Rachel) left our hometown of Lawrenceville, NJ at 6:30am on Monday, and arrived at my door in Shawnee, KS at 4:30pm on Tuesday. We went out for Peruvian food with my buddies, Mike and his son Dylan, then the 'rents and I drove to Chad's house to drop off... *sniff*... Petri. Chad has two dogs, Buster and Leia, and the three of them form the cutest little pack.
The next morning the three of us got on the road at 8:09, and drove until we arrived at our motel in Kadoka at about 4pm. We started The Golden Compass on Audible and are already halfway through- this is my fourth read/listen to this particular book, and the 'rents are loving it.
Lots of sunflower and corn fields on the drive north. And Sturgis, the big Harley gathering, is happening right now- so there are tons of bikers on the road, and at all the rest stops. When we arrived in Kadoka we went for a 40 minute walk before dinner. There is one bar in this town.
Four silly girls between ages 8 and 13 walked by and, giggling, announced to us that they were off to rob a house.
"Okay, don't get caught!" Rachel said. And then the oldest girl was like, "NO we're not actually going to though! We were just kidding!!" and all the girls lost it, laughing, which made us laugh. Then they called to my dad, who was walking behind us and taking photos, not to drink and drive. He reminded them that he was currently not driving, and they laughed about how he was driving an invisible car.
For dinner we walked to a joint called Club 27, where I ordered my very first chicken fried steak.
It's 8:30pm now and we're winding down for the night. Chad sent me a photo of Petri.
On the money front, I did pay off another $200 on the car loan, and my debt is now down to $7500.

A cool side of a building. Hope nobody steps out that door. |
